Akiguchi is a personal journal about Japan, travel, quiet places, old houses, food, walking paths, language learning, and the life I share with my husband, Jonathan.

Why this name?

Akiguchi can be understood as the beginning—or opening edge—of autumn. I love the idea of a threshold season: a time of maturity, attention, and beautiful change. This site is a place to notice that change, wherever it happens.

A lived perspective

I write as a gay man, a husband, and a traveler. That perspective belongs naturally in stories about safety, welcome, partnership, and hospitality, but it is not the only thing in the room. I believe generous places let people arrive as their whole selves.

A project still becoming

For now, Akiguchi is a digital home for essays and field notes. Over time it may grow toward rural Japan, hiking, guesthouses, or a future hospitality project. Like autumn itself, it is allowed to arrive slowly.
